Be a Pest Detective! Here’s How…

- Identify: Bedbugs are approximately 1/4” long, oval, flat and reddish brown.
- Inspect: When you enter your hotel room, look behind the bed board, or other furniture near the head of the bed, such as nightstands or picture frames. Bedbugs like to conjugate in tight locations. Pull back the sheets and examine the binding of the mattress. Look for the bedbugs hiding in the crevice or for telltale “blood spots.”
- Protect: If possible, avoid unpacking your clothes. Store suitcases on the luggage stand and keep them securely zipped. If you suspect bedbugs, kindly and discreetly ask management to be switched to another room.
Control at Home: Before you hire anyone to apply pesticides to your home or business, be sure the company is registered with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) and employs a certified applicator or an employee working under an applicator’s supervision. Check by searching the New York State Pesticide Administration Database or call (518) 402-8748.
