Turning the Tide on Trash

Stanley the striped bass is made entirely from plastic found near the ocean.Meet Stanley the Striped Bass. This sculpture was made entirely from discarded plastic found along waterways and coastlines. DEC partnered with NOAA’s Marine Debris Program
to raise awareness on the impacts of plastic
pollution. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that 80 percent of plastic
pollution in the ocean originates as land-based trash. Marine debris is a problem that each
individual resident can help prevent. Participating in a cleanup, using a reusable bag or water bottle, and reducing the use of plastic will move us one step closer to creating a more beautiful and healthy marine environment.
