Managing end-of-life packaging conceptual model
08/22/2019 10:59 AM EDT

The Maine Department of Environmental Protection is developing legislation to establish an extended producer responsibility law for packaging in Maine in response to the Resolve To Support Maine Recycling Programs (2019 Resolve Chapter 42).

The Department has developed a conceptual proposal to provide additional context for this discussion moving forward. We are very interested in hearing how various parties might be impacted. If you are unclear how you will be impacted or feel that your situation cannot be properly accounted for within the proposed system, please bring that to our attention.

Included at the end of the conceptual model are a number of questions. While we welcome input about all aspects of the model, we are especially interested in these particular questions as the answers, in many cases, are necessary to properly fill out the model.

We would appreciate written responses by September 13th to the extent you are able but will also be holding regional information and discussion sessions at each of the Department’s offices:

  • Bangor: August 27th, 9:00 a.m., at the Eastern Maine Regional Office at 106 Hogan Road.
  • Augusta: September 12th, 9:00 a.m., at the DEP Response Building at 7 Chimney Lane.
  • Portland: September 19th, 1:00 p.m., at the Southern Maine Regional Office at 312 Canco Road.
  • Presque Isle: October date to be determined, at the Northern Maine Regional Office at 1235 Central Drive.
  • Please send questions and comments to:
