High Water Festival in Kingston October 19th
Join the city of Kingston on October 19th for the High Water Festival, a family-friendly event
with activities and exhibits along Rondout Landing, and learn about the city’s progress in revitalizing the waterfront and reducing its vulnerability to flooding caused by sea-level rise and extreme storms. The festival will include exhibits about Kingston’s waterways, local food, music concerts, kid’s activities, and a 7 p.m. performance of “The City that Drinks the Mountain Sky: Part 2” by Arm-of-the-Sea Theater. The events will take place at the Hudson River Maritime Museum, Kingston Home Port and Education Center, and at the Historic Cornell Steamboat Building.
Kingston is one of the first cities in New York to achieve Silver Certification in the Climate Smart Communities Program, and is taking several steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. DEC’s Hudson River Estuary Program, Cornell University, and Scenic Hudson are among the partners helping Kingston plan for sea-level rise and improve the flood-readiness of the city’s infrastructure. The High Water Festival takes place on Friday, October 19th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The festival is made possible through a grant from the National League of Cities. |
