DEC’s 50th Anniversary Exhibit at Hudson River Maritime Museum
 This year marks the 50th anniversary of the creation of DEC, signed into law by Governor Rockefeller on the first Earth Day in 1970. In honor of this anniversary, the Hudson River Maritime Museum is showcasing an exhibit highlighting DEC’s five decades of nation-leading environmental policy and natural resource protection. The new panels, designed and funded by DEC, add to the museum’s exhibit Rescuing the River: 50 Years of Environmental Activism on the Hudson, which highlights the growth of environmental stewardship in the Hudson River Valley.
DEC has made remarkable progress in the past 50 years: significantly reducing pollution in New York’s air, land, and water; cleaning up thousands of waste sites and abandoned wells; protecting 1.5 million acres of open space; and protecting and restoring the bald eagle and lake sturgeon, whose existences in New York were at risk.
Funding for the exhibit was provided by the State’s Environmental Protection Fund (EPF), administered by DEC’s Hudson River Estuary Program, in partnership with NEIWPCC.
The Hudson River Maritime Museum, located in Kingston, NY, is open to the public 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The museum adheres to a COVID-19 safety protocol.
