DEC ‘On The Front Lines’ Video Features Human Resources Specialist Heath Boomhower

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Basil Seggos is proud to present the latest episode of “On the Front Lines,” the agency’s video series profiling staff and their work to conserve the environment, protect New York’s natural resources, and serve the public.

“We are proud of DEC’s ‘On the Front Lines’ series which gives the public a behind-the-scenes look at the great work our dedicated employees do every day across the state to preserve and protect the environment for generations to come,” Commissioner Seggos said. “It is an opportunity for New Yorkers to learn more about DEC’s work and our talented staff. I especially thank DEC Human Resources Specialist Heath Boomhower for his work to ensure our agency has highly trained, talented employees to manage our diverse natural resources, advance critical programs and policies, and serve the environmental needs of New Yorkers.”

The latest episode featuring DEC’s Bureau of Personnel can be viewed on the agency’s YouTube channel.

Heath Boomhower grew up in Albany County and earned undergraduate degrees in sociology from SUNY-Plattsburgh and Spanish from SUNY-Albany. Boomhower then spent two years with the Peace Corps in Costa Rica teaching rural community development. When he returned home, he pursued a master’s degree in Parks and Recreation Administration before joining DEC as a Human Resources Specialist. Among his diverse job duties, Boomhower works to attract quality candidates to fill open positions, assists managers with recruitment, succession planning, and exam preparation, and advises employees on opportunities to advance.

DEC’s Bureau of Personnel oversees recruitment, appointments, position classifications, examination planning, eligible list maintenance, and administration of employee benefits for the agency, which has nearly 3,000 employees.
