Stakeholder Webinar on Revised Waste Oil Regulation (6 NYCRR Subpart 225-2)

DEC is seeking to revise the current air regulation, 6 NYCRR Subpart 225-2, Fuel Composition and Use – Waste Fuel. This regulation applies to the use of waste oil — which is any used and/or reprocessed oil that does not contain chemical waste — to be burned as fuel. This includes engine, gear, or cutting oil; hydraulic or dielectric fluid, oil storage tank residue; and animal and vegetable oil.

DEC’s Division of Air Resources (DAR) intends to revise this regulation by updating and simplifying the language and making it easier to implement. These amendments will include, but are not limited to: changing the regulation title, eliminating outdated regulatory references, removing out-of-date work practices, and an overall updating and modernization the regulatory standards. Please see the attached fact sheet for a full list of the proposed changes and FAQs.

DAR will be holding a webinar on Tuesday, May 15th at 1 p.m. EST to explain these proposed changes. Members of the public can join this webex meeting,
