Public Education Sessions Available
This month, New York State is holding public education sessions on the State’s draft disadvantaged communities (DAC) criteria. When finalized, the DAC criteria will advance the landmark Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (Climate Act) work identifying and considering disadvantaged communities in regulatory actions and implementation of the Climate Act.
New York’s Climate Justice Work Group (CJWG), which consists of representatives from Environmental Justice groups from across the state, voted to release the draft criteria for identifying disadvantaged communities for New Yorkers to review. The criteria are based on geographic, public health, environmental hazard, and socioeconomic factors. Once approved, these criteria will be used to meet the goals of the Climate Act related to reducing pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, as well as to inform regulatory impact statements and direct the State’s clean energy and energy efficiency investments.
The public education sessions are an opportunity for interested stakeholders to review the CJWG’s process and methodology for selecting DACs and to answer technical questions on the draft criteria and maps. These are not public hearings. If you wish to make a public statement, please go online, send an email, or send us mail at:
