08/17/2018 05:22 PM EDT

The Maine Department of Environmental Protection (Department) will hold a Public Meeting on August 30, 2018 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Mill Stream Elementary School located at 26 Mercer Road in Norridgewock, Maine pursuant to 38 M.R.S. § 345-A (5). The purpose of the meeting is to inform the public of the proposed project and provide the public an opportunity to offer comments on the public benefit determination application filed with the Department by Waste Management Disposal Services of Maine, Inc. as owner and operator of the Crossroads Landfill.

Waste Management Disposal Services of Maine, Inc. requests a determination of public benefit for a proposed expansion of the Crossroads Landfill. In accordance with Maine laws and rules, the Commissioner must make a positive determination of substantial public benefit prior to the Department accepting an application for processing for a new or expanded solid waste disposal facility. If approved, the proposed expansion, known as Phase 14, will provide an additional 7 million cubic yards and approximately 15 years of disposal capacity.

The application and supporting documentation are available for review at the Department’s website: http://www.maine.gov/dep/waste/crossroadslandfill/index.html or through the Bureau of Remediation and Waste Management by calling (207) 287-7688.
